In 2015 4 explorers (rover scouts?) from the Dutch Kizito group completed the St. Joris hike, which was reinstated after 41 years.

A group of enthusiastic camp staff have reintroduced the St. Joris hike as an activity, available at St. Walrick. Since 2015 almost 300 scouts have completed the St. Joris hike, many of them during their summer camp at St. Walrick. Starting from the central train station in Nijmegen and finishing at the ruins on the St. Walrick terrain, the St. Joris hike leads you through the oldest city in the Netherlands, through the countryside, known as polders (a polder is reclaimed land), into the forest of Groesbeek and then onto the fens of Overasselt.

We have updated the hike, while preserving its characteristic elements. The hike is not only a challenge but also a chance to relax and reflect whilst hiking through one of the Netherlands' most scenic areas. It also is an opportunity to learn about Dutch scouting history.

Information can be found on the St. Joristocht site. You will find impressions of the hike on facebook.
